Apple Shifts Focus to Smart Glasses, Pivoting from Vision Pro to Challenge Meta’s AI Wearables
Apple has redirected engineering resources from its shelved Vision Air headset project to accelerate development of AI-powered smart glasses. The MOVE positions the tech giant for direct competition with Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses by 2027.
The first-generation glasses will feature voice control, health tracking, and iPhone-dependent processing—launching without displays. A subsequent model with integrated displays, targeting 2028 release, WOULD represent Apple's full-frontal assault on Meta's wearables dominance.
This strategic pivot underscores the intensifying arms race in voice-interactive AI hardware. Apple's abrupt course correction suggests wearable computing may reach mainstream adoption faster than augmented reality headsets.
